About Me

Hi! I’m Emily, but most people call me Quigs.

I’m an outdoor educator, a higher education professional, and a community organizer. I believe that outdoor programs can be radical tools of self-transformation and collective action. In my free time I love to read, walk my dog, engage with pop culture, watch Survivor, and host Shabbat dinners.

Why I do what I do…

By creating environments that encourage young people to take responsibility for each other and the community as a whole, we allow them to see the possibilities of the world that could and should exist for them. The outdoors and community organizing might seem super disconnected - but what else is organizing if not working towards creating the world we wish to see? If the outdoors is a breath from our every day lives, an opportunity to practice our values in real time, then community organizing is the real-world application of that practice.

How I got here…

Currently, I oversee all outdoor programs at Tufts University, and previously worked at Harvard University and NOLS. I’ve designed and facilitated workshops centered around the intersections of identity, community care, and risk management for a wide variety of students and audiences. I’ve planned and participated in non-violent direct actions, organized with a variety of movements, and studied theories of change.

I have a BS from Tufts University, an M.Ed from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, I am a certified NOLS Field Instructor, and I am Wilderness First Responder/CPR certified.
